What is power flushing?
Ever find that your heating doesn’t seem to be doing as good a job as it used to or that you have cold spots around your home? Do you sometimes hear funny noises coming from your boiler, such as groaning or banging? Have you recently bled your radiators and found that the water that comes out is dirty?
Over time, a closed-loop heating system will accumulate sludge. This is not unusual. In fact, it is more common than you think as water naturally has traces of dirt in it. These will slowly build up over time and can eventually prevent your heating from working efficiently.
When that happens the only way to get rid of this build-up is by flushing it out. We can do this by using a power flushing technique that uses water and chemicals to push out this sludge build-up. We will then run a light chemical through the system to slow down future build-up.
When to power flush your system
Power flushing is not only necessary when you’ve already identified a sludge build-up problem. It is also useful, and recommended, when you have a new boiler installed. This is because newer boilers typically have smaller pipes which would make a build-up of sludge more likely and over a shorter period of time.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that some boiler manufacturers have a clause in their small print that means the warranty is not applicable if you have not flushed out your system prior to installation.
